The word enigma originally referred to words that formed a riddle or complicated metaphor that tested the listener's or reader's alertness and cleverness. Later, the word enigma evolved from only referring to riddles to also referring to people. In between those uses, it was (and still is) applied to things that puzzle people.

In 2011, the owner and her family suffered the devastating loss of her sister. Enigma Design Company is dedicated to her, to her obsession with the concept of an enigma, and to the love of art and creativity.
